Born in Hong Kong and one of eight siblings, Katrina Kaif is half Indian, half British. Born to an Indian Kashmiri father and British mother, Kaif grew up in Hawaii, where she started modeling at the age of 14 when she was approached for a jewelry campaign.
She made her break into film with "Boom" when she was discovered by filmmaker Kaizad Gustad. It wasn't long before Kaif decided to take up acting full time and move to Mumbai. However, many filmmakers were hesitant to sign her because of her linguistic shortcomings, such as her inability to speak Hindi. Films that did feature her usually had her voice dubbed over by a native speaker.
Despite this obstacle, Kaif continued Hindi and dancing lessons, and earned respectable reviews for her role in "Maine Pyar Kyon Kya." Her 2007 film, "Namastey London," did reasonably well at the box office. Although she was rumored to be romantically linked to Salman Khan, Kaif is a private person and does not like to reveal her private life to the public.
